Kamal (Perfection), 1 Sharaf (Honor) 175 B.E. - Monday, December 31, 2018 Feast of Sharaf "Make ye an effort in every meeting that the Lord's Supper may become realized and the heavenly food descend. This heavenly food is knowledge, understanding, faith, assurance, love, affinity, kindness, purity of purpose, attraction of hearts and the union of souls. It was this manner of the Lord's Supper which descended from the heavenly kingdom in the day of Christ. When the meeting is conducted after this manner, then 'Abdu'l-Baha also is present in heart and soul, though His body may not be with you." 'Abdu'l-Baha3 The "Blogging Circle of Friends " prompt for DAY 2234 Write about endings and/or beginnings. Endings and Beginnings Endings and beginnings pass through the same door. One exits while the other enters. In the journey of life, when one phase of life or road ends than another begins. Sometimes it is difficult for an individual to discern the difference between an end and a beginning, because of the hustle and bustle going on around the event that either ends or begins a new phase of existence. At other times the demarcation line is so obvious that the individual feels as if they are falling into an abyss. Today, December 31, is both an ending and a beginning. It is the last day of 2018, but it is the first day of the month of Sharaf. Today is the Feast Day of Sharaf 175 B.E. The English translation for Sharaf is Honor, which is one of the attributes of God. The Baha'i day is a solar day, which is a twenty-four hour period between sunset of one day and sunset of the next. The first day of Sharaf begin at sunset on December 30, and will end at sunset today, December 31. All across the planet, at sometime during this twenty-four hour period Baha'i communities will celebrate the Feast of Honor (Sharaf), which is one of the nineteen-day Feasts or the Lord's Suppers. Jalal (Glory), 18 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Saturday, December 29, 2018 Goals To Do List for 2019 To Be Reevaluated in March of 2019 Each morning place the day in God's hands. Submit each week to "I Write in 2019" . Respond to "Invalid Item" prompts in "Welcome to My Life" each week. Write 200 poems to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the Bab and place them in "Bicentenary Poems and Prose" . Include a birth in one or more stories submitted to contests. See "Action/Adventure Newsletter (December 19, 2018)" . Set up editing schedule and deadline (at least one day before the Monday specific newsletter is due) for upcoming news letters. Respond to, at least, 20 prompts for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" in January. The responses will be in "I Blog Poetry and Prose" Respond to "Invalid Item" Topic of the Week each week. Do a better job of keeping track of my finances by checking my bank account every day. Placeholder for project I need to finish in 2019 if it isn't finished by January 1, 2019. Once this project is complete, this becomes a placeholder for whatever comes up during the year. Bring myself to account each day, in writing. The Last Saturday in 2018 It's the last Saturday in 2018, and the beginning of a new writing week for me. My goals to do list runs seven days, from Saturday to Friday. This week, it will take me a couple of days to redo the list because the Gregorian year begins on Tuesday, January 1, and I need to post the list on "Weekly Goals" on Monday, December 31. On Monday, "I Write in 2019" begins and, this coming year, I will place all or most of my contest entries in "Snow's Writing for 2019, 2020, & Beyond" . The "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise" prompt for DAY 1839 Goodreads has a writing challenge each year. Do you participate in the challenge? How important to writing is reading other author's work? Do you read only books in your writing genre or do you mix it up? My reading for the past few months has been reading and reviewing on writing.com, and reading the books I have here at home of an evening. I didn't put any reading goal on my 2019 Goals To Do List; however, I will consider that when I reevaluate the list in March. In the mean time I will continue my reading schedule the way I'm doing it, because it works well most of the time. The "Blogging Circle of Friends " prompt for DAY 2232 Use the following statement to inspire your blog entry. "Live, Laugh, Love in 2019." Have fun. Live, Laugh, Love in 2019 I will live each day loving the Glorious Lord, and finding a reason to laugh. |
Iatiqlall (Independence), 17 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Friday, December 28, 2018 "Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us." Hal Borland DAY 2231 December 28, 2018 Use these words in your entry today: form, laugh, hypnotic, smell, bray, country, bean and store. Have fun! Bean Soup Inhale the scent of winter, the smell of snow on Mount Charleston. Listen to the north wind: Can you hear it laugh? The wind and the snow ignores the harsh bray of politicians in their attempt to segregate humanity-- with the walls of fear and hatred-- into enclaves by country, religion, gender, etc. Humanity is a multi-bean soup! The shape or form of the beans is less important than the way their taste compliment each other. You cannot create a hypnotic tasting bean soup by purchasing one type of bean in a store. DAY 1838 December 28, 2018 Let's discuss New Year's resolutions, do you believe they're effective ways to get motivated or to set goals or are they something you laughingly make each year and then promptly blow off? Have you or have you seen people effectively fulfilled a resolution? New Year's Resolutions I have writing I want to accomplish in 2019. I have made a "Goals To Do List" for first three months of 2019. I may or may not change anything on that list when I reevaluate (9 of the items) it in March of 2019. There are somethings I haven't put on it, which could go on it. I decided to limit the list to ten items, because that's all I think I can focus on. Goals To Do List for 2019 Reevaluate in March 2019 Each morning place the day in God's hands. Submit each week to "I Write in 2019" . Istijlal (Majesty), 16 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Thursday, December 27, 2018 Gratitude List for 16 Masa’ill Today I am thankful... ...that I found my mother's copy of The Baha'i World Faith: Selected Writings of Baha'u'llah and Abdu'l-Baha, because now I can read it when getting up in the morning and before going to sleep at night; ...for coffee and Christmas cookies for my first breakfast this morning; ...that I have 4,217,012 GPs in my Gift Points account, because now I can purchase a 12-month membership in writing.com; ...for the sandwich, with meat and cheese, I had for my second breakfast; ...that I can get most of my prescriptions through the Humana mail order pharmacy, so I don't have to find a way to a local pharmacy to pick them up. The "Blogging Circle of Friends " prompt for DAY 2230 This is the last Thursday in 2018. Write a gratitude list, at least five items, of things you are thankful for in this year. The Last Thankful Thursday in 2018 On the last Thankful Thursday in 2018, The "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise" prompt for Day 1837 "And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been." Rainer Marie Rilke Write anything you want about this. On the last Thankful Thursday in 2018, I am looking forward to the new Gregorian year of 2019 because Baha'is across the world will celebrate the Naw-Ruz 176 on March 21, the two-hundredth Anniversary of the Birth of the Bab on October 29, and the Anniversary of the Birth of Baha'u'llah on October 30. |
'Idal (Justice), 15 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Wednesday, December 26, 2018 The End of a Gregorian Year There are six day left in 2018. It has been both an inspiring and frightening year. I don't see the situation changing very much in the next six day. I could be wrong, the world situation could get either better or worse. The American political situation could get either better or worse. My life situation could get either better or worse. The truth is, there are only two ways any situation or event can go. The situation can either get better or it can get worse, because that's how life on the physical or material plane is. Eventually, I believe, the world situation will get better; however, we--the human race--will have to go through hell before we reach the end of the dark tunnel we are in. Humanity is in the process of maturing as a race, as a species, and the present worldwide political situation is a reflection of the growing process. The human race, as a species, will have to let go of the superstitio9ns, dogma, and fears of its childhood before it can step into the responsibility, security, and wisdom of its adulthood. Eventually humanity will take on its adult responsibilities, and the political situation across the planet will improve. |
Fiḍál (Grace), 14 Masa’ill (Questions) 175 B.E. - Tuesday, December 25, 2018 It is Christmas Day. This is the day much of the world, traditionally, celebrates the birth of His Holiness Christ. As I said, in "Christmas Eve Thoughts on the Birth of His Holiness Christ" , I don't think it matters as much when Christ's birth is celebrated as the reason it is celebrated. According to The 1st Recorded Celebration of Christmas by Dan Graves, the first time Christmas was celebrated on December 25 was in 336 A.D. Mr. Graves enlightening and educational article gives historical information and facts about some of the Christmas traditions that we incorporate into the Christmas celebration. His Holiness Christ He is the word God imparted to Mary the manifestation of divine love. He is the voice of the spirit calling from behind the veil of flesh. He is the Son expressing the Father's will the reflection of divine attributes He is the vocal chords of matter intoning salvation's melody. The poems "We Forgot" and "His Holiness Christ" are two of several poems I've written dedicated to His Holiness Jesus Christ. Some of the others can be found in "To Jesus Christ: The Anoited One" , as I rediscover more poem I will place them in the entry in "Devotional Poetry" or create separate entries for them, depending on how long or how many there are. |
Kamal (Perfection), 13 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Monday, December 24, 2018 "...Christ appeared in order to illumine the world of humanity, to render the earthly world celestial, to make the human kingdom a realm of angels, to unite the hearts, to enkindle the light of love in human souls, so that such souls might become independent, attaining complete unity and fellowship, turning to God, entering into the divine Kingdom, receiving the bounties and bestowals of God and partaking of the manna from heaven...." 'Abdu'l-Baha4 It's Christmas Eve the day before the traditional celebration of the birth of His Holiness Christ. Even though, December 25--isn't the month or the day on which Christ was born--it's the day the majority of the planet celebrates His birth. I don't think the exact date of Christ birth matters as much as the reason he was born. Christ was born to shed light upon the human race, to unity humanity in the bonds of love, and to teach human beings how to forgive. We need to remember that the gives given during the Christmas season symbolize the love God showered upon humanity when Christ was born. We Forgot We celebrate the bookends of His life (the manager and the cross), but we've forgotten the years between like water turned to wine consumed at a marriage feast. In a world transformed by His blood Roman areans crumbed into dust, and souls reborn created art for Him; but we forgot to watch for His return. Footnotes |
Jamal (Beaury), 12 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Sunday, December 23, 2018 Cures for Insomnia I haven't had insomnia this month. The main reason, I think, is that I'm reading before going to sleep. Right now I'm reading The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which I should finish in a few days. In addition, I either read or recite prayers revealed by Baha'u'llah, the Bab, or 'Abdu'l-Baha before I go to sleep, so my nights are restful. True, I've been getting up later this fall and winter, but that's because I don't like getting out of a warm bed on a cold morning. I take my first morning medication before getting up, the pills and water are on my bedside table so I can reach them easily. Reading Poetry In Bed The mind sated with verse falls into a contemplative stupor. Eyelids close, pupils focus on the interplay of light and shadow. Words unassociated with those just read jolt the mind awake. Eyelids open, pupils focusing on the interplay of meter and rhyme close again. That is one of two poems I wrote in 152 B.E., when I was dealing with random bouts of--what I referred to at the time as--terminal insomnia. As you can see, the insomnia didn't actually kill me. It finally went away, and I went back to my normal sleep pattern. My normal sleep pattern is sleep for two or three hours and wake up. I go back to sleep after a few prayers. The second poem is below. Reading the Word of God in Bed The mind hungry for reality consumes the Holy Words. Eyelids heavy with meditation fight to stay open. The mind thirsty for the Water of Life drinks long and deep. Eyelids surrendering to the joy of contemplation falls asleep. |
Jalal (Glory), 11 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Saturday, December 22, 2018 “A myth is a way of making sense in a senseless world. Myths are narrative patterns that give significance to our existence.” Rollo May The "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise" prompt for DAY 1832 The Grinch has stolen Christmas and it's up to you to save Whoville, have fun on this creative Saturday. A ribbon is at stake for the most creative entry, is it going to be yours? The Myths of Christmas I enjoy the myths of Christmas. I like the old ones and the new ones. I like the frightening and non-frightening myths. I enjoy reading and watching them because they are creative, inspiring, and--in most cases--teach a lesson on how humans should treat each other. Some of the older myths take in the pagan aspects of the season. Some of the newer ones use the themes of love, hope, faith, and joy to suggest how one human being should treat another. Over the decades and centuries, these myths have become part of the culture and are expressed in different way across the planet. Myths are metaphors expressing the duality of human nature, The "Blogging Circle of Friends " prompt for DAY 2225 Begin your entry with "On a cold December night..." What happened? A Cold December Night On a cold December night the North Star was twinkling so bright that it sent angels into flight. |
Iatiqlall(Independence), 10 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Friday, December 21, 2018 The "Blogging Circle of Friends " prompt for DAY 2224 Discuss your plans for this winter solstice? Are you going to watch the meteor shower? I don't celebrate winter solstice, and I won't be watching the meteor shower unless I can find an online video of the event. I will start working on a new poetry form I discovered through "~ The Poet's Place Cafe~" called the "Golden Shovel"5. I will do a couple of reviews, posts some of my older poems to "Devotional Poetry" and "Poem Experiments" , and (probably) do a couple of surveys. In other words, Winter Solstice is just another day for me. The "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise" prompt for DAY 1831 Use this words in your blog today: elf, turkey, ham, wagging, feathers, doorbell and solstice. On the shortest day of the year, there is nothing to fear, unless your a turkey or a honey roasted ham that is on the menu for the holiday feast occurring on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Winter solstice, the shortest day of the Gregorian year, when last minute Christmas shopper start to panic, and traffic-- on city streets, cross town express ways, and on the internet-- becomes frantic. On the shortest day of the year, when the doorbell starts ringing, the dog starts singing and wagging its tail, and the snow begins falling-- like feathers flying-- you know that you better place the elf on the shelf because Santa will be coming soon. Istijlal (Majesty), 9 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Thursday, December 20, 2018 On Thankful Thursday, I give thanks for memories of divine springtime. The "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise" prompt for Day 1830 What is the best thing that happened to you this year? Remembering Spring In the darkness of December, I remember the joy of spring celebrations: Naw-Ruz and Ridvan. Naw-Ruz, celebrated on the vernal equinox, praying in the New Year, food and fellowship, and giving thanks to the All-Glorious Lord for blessings of the previous year. Ridvan, celebrating the Declaration of Baha'u'llah, prayers and scripture readings, fellowship and food, and--on the First Day of Ridvan-- communities coming together to elect their Local spiritual Assembly. |
‘Idal (Justice), 8 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Wednesday, December 19, 2018 Yesterday, December 18, I went to my podiatrist's office. After the appointment was over, I had to wait for the paratransit bus to pick me up and bring me back home. While I was waiting I wrote "Transformation" in response to a prompt posted on "~ The Poet's Place Cafe~" . When I returned home, I copied the poem into "Snow Scribbles" and posted it under the discussion on perspective on "~ The Poet's Place Cafe~" . The poem was about how transformation changes a person's world views. I begin going through some hard copies of older poems that I am posting in "Devotional Poetry" and "Poem Experiments" . I discovered two poem I wrote in November of 2002, in response to a prompt from a Yahoo poetry group. Those two poems, "In The Small Moments" and "Fault Lines", covered the topics of transformation and changing world view. In The Small Moments It is in the small moments, in the silent moment, in the tranquil episodes between the hours of chaos that transformation occurs. Metamorphoses happens in the silence of the chrysalis, after close encounters of the mortal kind, after the altered reality of terror, after the sudden shock of realization, of discovering the difference between the way I am and the way I want to be. The soul speaks in silent moments, in the small intervals occurring between chaos and the void; after diurnal existence pushes the envelop to bursting. It is in the small moments, in the silence of meditation, when mind asks and soul answers that free will chooses. It is in the silent moments, in the nanoseconds between sleeping and waking, in the seconds between thought and action that we evolve. It is in the silent moments, that we learn the difference between life and death, between spiritual and material, between paradise and purgatory. I wrote both these poems in November of 2002. "Write of something done in a small moment," inspired "In The Small Moments". "Write about a fault line," inspired the poem "Fault Lines". Fault Lines Across nine hundred thousand miles of unexplored territory fault lines converge on a single point in the known universe. Quakes, scattered at first, increase in intensity and proximity, as they flow across the landscape. My world view collapses into a pile of rubble, the past is consumed in a conflagration of terror. Continental plates pull apart leaving behind a rift valley separating yesterday and tomorrow. I prowl the bottom of deep gorges looking for a path out of my rut. Continental plates push together forming mountain ranges between who I was and who I will be. |
Fiḍál (Grace), 7 Masa’ill (Questions) 175 B.E. - Tuesday, December 18, 2018 The "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise" prompt for DAY 1828 In figuring out--beforehand--what other people will do, how often do you get it right? Does your sixth sense or gut feeling help or does it confuse you? Intuition Intuition, gut feeling, is part of the human survival instinct and one an attribute of the soul. Sometimes it works well in foretelling how other people will act or react. This is especially true when the individual--using gut feeling--is confronted with a situation than can either be dangerous or transformative. At other times it doesn't work very well for one reason or another. I have found that the best way to develop intuition is through prayer, meditation, and listening to the still, small voice of your soul. I normally don't use it when attempting to figure out other people because I usually don't think to use it or the situation doesn't appear to call for it. If there is a potential problem, my intuition usually gives me some warning. The "Blogging Circle of Friends " prompt for DAY 2221 “Enlightenment arrives like a thief in the middle of the dark night of the soul.” ― Stefan Emunds Let this quote inspire your blog entry. Write about either enlightenment or the dark night of the soul. If you want, you can write about both. Enlightenment Darkness is a prerequisite for transformation. Only by experiencing in the dark night of the soul does the individual become aware of the divine light of mercy, grace, and forgiveness. Once the individual glimpses the light and becomes aware of the darkness, the tests pushing the person toward the light of salvation begins. However, finding or achieving salvation doesn't end the tests, because this is just the first stage in the spiritual transformation of the individual. |
Kamal (Perfection), 6 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Monday, December 17, 2018 The "Blogging Circle of Friends " prompt for DAY 2220 Write about a birthday. It can be anyone's birthday. Just tell us why that particular birthday is special. After some contemplation and prayer, I decided to write about the only two birthdays that matter to me anymore. Those are the Birth of the Bab and the Birth of Baha'u'llah, which I cannot write about separately because they fall so close together. These two birthdays are celebrated on the first and second day following the eight new moon after Naw-Ruz. Naw-Ruz is the first day of the Baha'i year, and falls on the vernal equinox. The Universal House of Justice, the governing body of the Baha'i Faith (located in Haifa, Israel, on Mount Carmel), has established that the birthplace of Baha'u'llah as the location of the vernal equinox. In 2017, we celebrated the two hundredth anniversary of the Birth of Baha'u'llah. In 2019, we will celebrate the two hundredth anniversary of the Birth of the Bab. These two, twin, birthdays are one day after another because the Bab was born on 1 Muharram 1235 AH and Baha'u'llah on 2 Muharram 1233 AH. In 2017, I wrote two hundred poems dedicated to Baha'u'llah and placed them in "Bicentenary Poems and Prose" . In 2019, I will write two hundred poems dedicated to the Bab and place them in that book. Since writing the poems to Baha'u'llah, I have added a few other poems, inspired by the writings or dedicated to either the Bab or Baha'u'llah, to that book. |
Kamal (Perfection), 6 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Monday, December 17, 2018 "One must remember that the purpose of this life is to prepare the soul for the next." Baha'i Writings The "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise" prompt for DAY 1827 The meaning of life for some people can be the privilege of existence or to feel one’s worth or to own a dog or a myriad of other things. What is the meaning of life for you or, if you don't want to talk about yourself, someone you know or a character you’ve created? What is the Meaning of Life? What is the meaning of life? What is the purpose of being born into this world? For me, the purpose and meaning of life are interconnected with each other and with my spiritual path. A human being is a soul possessing entity, and is born into this material world so that the soul can develop the spiritual virtues it needs to survive in the spiritual world. When the body dies, it returns to the atoms from which it was created. At the death of the body, the soul ascends into the next world--the world of the spirit--and there it has only the spiritual virtues that it developed in its so journey with the physical body. The body dies, and the soul ascends into the next world. There it continues to advance with whatever spiritual qualities it acquired while partnered with the body. Each soul is a unique creation of the Almighty, and does not return to the physical plan in another body of any kind, whether human, animal, or plant. When the soul ascends into the spiritual world it continues to advance toward God, the eternal Beloved of the soul. I believe my, individual, purpose is to write spiritual poetry and to proclaim the name of Baha'u'llah, the Glory of God. |

Composed of two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen water flows. Religion is one! Water flows, two atoms of hydrogen and one of oxygen, across the planet descending in torrents from the clouds of mercy. Humanity is one! Jalal (Glory), 4 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Saturday, December 15, 2018 "Reflect, O people, on the grace and blessings of your Lord, and yield Him thanks at eventide and dawn." Baha’u’llah6 The "Blogging Circle of Friends " prompt for DAY 2218 Does the winter weather put you in a Bah Hum Bug mood this time of year? If so, how do you change your mood? Bah Humbug Mood I am bordering on a bah humbug mood. The reason is the short dim December day, the long dark December night, and being born on December 24. The combination always makes me nostalgic and depressed. I've found that the best way to dissipate depression is prayer, reading the sacred scriptures, meditation, writing, listening to music, gratitude, and reading and reviewing on writing.com. The "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise" prompt for DAY 1825 Use these words in your entry today: mistletoe, snowman, angel, cactus, demolish and pickles. Christmas Dream I looked out my window and saw a Christmas cactus blooming in the snow, beside a sprig of mistletoe. This must be a dream, I thought when up walked a Santa snowman, with a crystal snow angel. I smiled, as the angel reached into a snowbank and pulled out a jar of bread and butter pickles. I didn't want to wake up because I knew that doing so would demolish this pleasant Christmas dream. Footnotes |
Iatiqlall (Independence), 3 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Friday, December 14, 2018 A Divine Creation Soul, a divine creation, a single undivided essence, with neither beginning nor ending, associated with the body at conception. In its association with the body the soul is given a choice between opposites, while receiving an education and developing its God given attributes. When the body dies the soul ascends into the spiritual world. The soul takes with it the positive qualities, that it developed during it so journey in matter. Positive qualities-- such as love, joy, faith, hope, etc-- aid the soul in the world of the spirit. |
Istijlal (Majesty), 2 Masa’il (Questions) 175 B.E. - Thursday, December 13, 2018 "Humanity may be likened to a tree. This tree has branches, leaves, buds and fruit. Think of all men as being flowers, leaves or buds of this tree, and try to help each and all to realize and enjoy God’s blessings. God neglects none: He loves all." Divine Orchard Out of the soil of humanity, Sprouts the Orchard of God, From the hues of the rainbow, Is derived the spectrum of love. On A Chilly Thursday in Las Vegas It is a chilly, bordering on cold Thursday morning here in Las Vegas. I've consumed one cup of coffee, one bowl of instant oatmeal, and one raisin-cinnamon breakfast roll. I've begun to warm up; therefore, I'm going to pause in this entry because I have to check the mailbox. We finally received the key yesterday evening, and it was too dark and cold to check the box at that time. I got the mail, and there was nothing important. I'll have to go back later to pick up today's mail. Right now I'm on hold, waiting to speak to a customer service agent at the Social Security. I attempted to call the local office, but they won't let me through to a customer service agent. I had to call the other number, which means I'm on hold for, at least an hour. On the bright side, I can use the landline for the waiting time, and still get calls on my smartphone. Since the landline is next to the computer, I can work online while I'm waiting to talk to someone. Footnotes |
