A blog series on 10 things I've learned while working on my Illegal World Series.

For anyone who follows me on some level, it might be no secret that I am in the thick of rewriting one of my novels from NaNoWriMo 2017. Rewriting a novel is thrilling, tiring, and exciting all at the same time. Indeed, the madness continues as I aim to take book one of my Illegal World Series and turn it into a polished piece of artwork. The Illegal World Series has grown quite quickly. In fact, I consider it to be my fastest writing project to date. Because I am immersed in my project, I don't think it's a surprise that my writing came to mind when I considered what I should write about for "The Bard's Hall Contest"

. I have learned a lot throughout the process of writing my series, even though it isn't done. So I will be spending 10 entries devoted to my writing style. I will go through some of my observations on writing tools I use, plotting and character exercises, planning verses pantsing, and etc.

I use Shakespeare and the 5 act formula. It's very similar to your plot valley.

I've done 4 NaNoWriMo's and I've completed all but I'm totally into writing. I write 1600 words a day and then edit because I can't help myself so when I finish NoNoWriMo, all it needs is a light edit.

I go deep when I world pain. I make maps, use graphics to inspire, write a "Bible" for the world. I usually do this in my pre-writing phase as I prepare to write.

I do a combination of both. I "basically" plan the plot and pants the characters and if I need to adjust, I do so, after 3 chapters.

I use Word. I'm more of a pen and paper writing do most of my scene building on outlines on pen and paper. Works for me.

I agree about goal setting. You've got to know yourself. When I'm actively writing, my goal is three good chapters at a time. Once written, go back and edit as needed with attention to character development and plot. Every writer will have their own individual goals.

I never feel very inspired when facing editing -- especially a novel. One can get so bogged-down trying to be perfect instead of doing a quick edit, later go back and refine it a little more. Baby steps

I'm the queen of those.

It's a good thing I have a broom, I wouldn't be able to walk far in my old baby shoes. Darn those novels of mine. (Shakes fist at the thought of putting aside time to edit those pages that haunt and beckon.)

Go Google. Very easily found and very easy to download. I suspect Scrivi is much more elaborate but ywriter is not bad for a freebie.
