The severe storms that came through early Friday morning knocked our power out. Thankfully it was restored yesterday, but boy did we have a sweltering day! Our internet service was finally restored a few ours ago, so we are all trying to play catch up with our online activities. It's amazing how much we rely on technology. I think I must have gotten confused somewhere which days were for what prompts for the blogging challenge, so please let me know if I'm wrong. I think today's prompts is the Citizen Scientists article. My college major was Wildlife Conservation. Sadly, I didn't finish and get my degree. I learned a great deal though. We had to go on Coyote Counts. Mainly we laid on our stomachs and counted the number of coyotes we saw through our binoculars. It was quite boring, but interesting to see how each of the 16 students nearly always came up with the same number. I wish more teens took an interest in wildlife and agriculture. The two in the article look awfully young, so I bet they go on to do something great. When I was a kid, we were always outside doing something, anything. Now I rarely see kids playing outside. The only time I can get my nephew out is on a clear night to stargaze. I suppose it's better than nothing. I think it's important to have that sense of belonging in a community too. We've lived in the same town for nearly 5 years, but I still feel like an outsider. I'm genuinely afraid if more youth don't get actively involved in our enviroment that there won't be much left for them to enjoy. |
