30 Day Blogging Challenge Prompt 24 ▼ One of our Christmas traditions is listening to festive music and enjoying a cup of eggnog while we decorate our tree. Eggnog. What an odd holiday drink. There are more than 1878 variations of the name. As for the origin of eggnog, there are many theories and debates, so we may never know for sure. One thing we do know is that it's a dairy-based beverage. So why in the world does my teenage daughter insist on trying it year after year? She's borderline lactose intolerant! But as soon as the seasonal drink appears on store shelves, she begs to sample it. I guess she's waiting for her taste buds to change because so far she still doesn't like it. And of course, it temporarily upsets her stomach. She does have Lactaid pills that she takes if she's really craving a milkshake or other foods on the no-no list, but they don't seem to help much with eggnog. Honestly, I find it amusing. Not the discomfort, no amount of cheer is worth that hassle, but the fact that each year I tell her it's not a good idea and she does it anyway. Why can't she just be satisfied with her gross cotton candy flavored candy canes? My family is full of stubborn people. If everyone would just listen to what I say and do what I want them to, life would be much easier. Yes, I do have some control issues, thank you. I'm starting to believe that she does this on purpose to irritate me. She has a gift that way. |
