I am willing to try anything once. But there are some genres I will never try to write.
I might specialize in writing Science Fiction, but that doesn't mean I can't write in other genres. Even in my Science Fiction stories these other genres are involved.

What I write other than Science Fiction are Mysteries, Action/Adventure, Suspence, and Drama. I have also written some Fantasy and a lot of Horror stories.

This blog is to let anyone who likes to read them to know what I like to write and what I don't like to write. I'm hoping this will be on a daily basis, but I don't know if I can do it.

Entertainment

I was going to do my blog this week on Fanfiction in honor of April’s Power Reviewers Raid. But I have already done a blog on Fanfiction. So, I decided to do it on Entertainment instead. Besides, one of the themes for April’s Raid was also Disney. And Disney is definitely Entertainment.

Entertainment is a lot like Fanfiction, especially when it comes to writing. Fanfiction is more about characters from the different media. Whether it’s television, movie, video games, etc. if it’s about a character or characters then it’s Fanfiction. But if it’s about the industry or behind-the-scenes then it’s Entertainment.

Can it be both Entertainment and Fanfiction? Yes, it can. At least I think it can. In fact, it is usually both. It all depends on what you are writing about. If the Prompt called for a fictional character who goes undercover at a movie studio to find a killer, I would say that it is both.

I don’t think I have ever written an Entertainment story yet. But the again I might have. Up until a few days ago, I didn’t think that I had done any Fanfiction either. But I have done at least two of them. And they are both Doctor Who. One was a Short Story I think I did for a Writer’s Cramp Prompt. The other one was just a day or two days ago for a Power Reviewers Raid Challenge. But this last one wasn’t a Short Story. I classified it as Essay.

Will I ever write an Entertainment story? I’m not planning on doing it anytime soon. But one of my creations is about the GNN aka the Galactic News Network. I just can’t remember if it’s a television series, a movie or a Novel.

Adult

Don’t panic. I’m not going to blog about X-rated stories that I have written, not written or even Eighteen Plus that I’ve written. I have written quite a few stories with an Eighteen Plus rating. But that isn’t because it was the Adult genre. It was because I felt it was a little strong for the younger readers.

I’ve written a few that was above Eighteen Plus. But it wasn’t because they were Adult. It was because they involved either death, killing, a little gory or usually a combination of two if not all three of them. They were usually the first one or two. But I didn’t go into too much detail of how it happened or what they looked like after. I did have a couple, three at the most, that were a little gory. Even they weren’t that bad.

If you have read any of my stories, then you know that I don’t use profanity in any of my stories. I don’t even use slang words that everyone knows what you are really saying or reading. Personally, I don’t think that you need to use profanity in a story. Even genres like War, Action/Adventure, and Crime/Gangsters which can be, and often are, profanity generated stories. Detective, especially Private Detective, stories can be too. A good example of that is the Sue Grafton novels.

To me, the Adult genre is between Romance/Love and Erotica. It’s stronger than Romance/Love. But not as graphic as Erotica. I think the Adult genre is closer to Romance/Love, but it can Erotica too. It all depends on how much detail that you put into your stories.

I don’t think that I have ever categorized any of my stories with the Adult genre. But I might have with the ones that are rated higher than Eighteen Plus that I mentioned above. If I have, please let me know.

Will I ever write a story with the Adult genre? I might. Then again, I might not. After all, I don’t write for adults. I write for the child in all of us. Even the one that are rated Eighteen Plus aren’t that bad. Most of them are rated that way just to be on the safe side.

Researching

It’s getting harder and harder to decide which genre I am going to blog today. I have blogged all the ones that I liked. And some of the ones I don’t dislike. But there are still a lot that I’m crazy about. There are still that I don’t like at all. There’s not too many of them. But there are a few.

The way I’m doing these blogs is the same way that I write my Outlines for Novels, and my Outlines and Treatments for my Scripts. First, third, sixth, and eighth days of the month I write what I like or don’t dislike. Second, fourth, seventh, and ninth days I write about the ones I don’t like. The fifth and tenth days are the more serious, like death and murder etc., genres.

It’s similar for my Outlines and Treatments. Except instead of days it’s chapters, parts of a chapter, or scene numbers. My Outlines and Treatments are more organized too. They have the same number of lines when it comes to the Outlines. For Treatments, it depends on what the scene number are.

I’m a very huge fan of researching. Especially when it comes to my non-Science Fiction writing. That’s more remembering than research. But there is some researching that I must do occasionally because my memory isn’t as good as it used to be. I have so many memories in my head that I get some of them confused. That’s when I must do my research. Only instead of books and the internet I do research with my mind.

My non-Science Fiction writing is completely the opposite when it comes to doing research. I must do a lot of research. That’s because I’m not every worldly. I’ve lived in Kansas or Missouri all my life. I have done a little traveling in the United States. But I can count the number of places I’ve been on one hand.

If I’m writing a story about a part of the world I don’t know about then I must do research. That’s one of the reasons why I love Science fiction so much. It’s also why I don’t do a lot of stories about other parts of the world. If I do a story like that it’s usually generic. I don’t get too technical about the location.

It’s not just the world that I must do research about. I also need to do it with people too. Most of that research is do via the internet. But some of it I do with books. I often go to a library to do my research. If I can’t go on the internet, which I do first, then I go to the library.

A good example of this is a story I did a few days ago. The Prompt not only involved the anniversary of Merle Haggard’s birthday and his death, it also had to do with at least one of his songs and a real-life fact about his life. I haven’t been fan of country music since I was a youngster. So, I had to do some research about him. Especially regarding the real-life fact. I already knew a little about his music. But I had to do research on that too.

I don’t consider Researching a genre. But the WDC does. Like I have written above I do a lot of research, but I haven’t written any stories about Researching. Will I in the future? The answer to that question is, no. At least not soon. Except for the monthly WDC contest and maybe some Writer’s Cramp contest I’m concentrating on my Novel, My movie Script, my television series, and two blockbuster movies the rest of this year. After that, who knows. Maybe I will do a story about Researching.

Comedy

I would like to talk to you about one of my favorite genres. Even though I have used it too often in my writing. That genre is Comedy. The reason I have chosen this genre to talk about is because of what today is. I’m not sure about the rest of the world. But here in the United States today is April Fool’s Day.

Part of April Fool’s Day is pranking. And most pranks can be funny. At least it is with everyone except for the one who is the victim of that prank. I have never been a prankster. But I have thought about it a lot, though. I’ve even imagined it a few million times. I also don’t think I have ever been a victim of a prank. But I probably was, especially while I was going up.

Comedy to me isn’t pranking. It’s making people laugh by what you say or do. Sometimes that can be done via a prank. But a lot of the time, if not the most of it, those pranks aren’t funny. They are just cruel.

What do I think comedy is? I just said what makes people laugh. Now I’m going to tell you what I think is comedy. I’m a spontaneous comic. I am a put-down comedian too. Don Rickles is considered the best when it comes to putdowns. But I’m one too. As for what makes me laugh, jokes and one-liners will do it. So, does slapstick. In fact, I love slapstick.

I haven’t done a lot of comedy in my stories so far. At least I haven’t done any intentionally. But apparently, I have per some of the reviews I have received. The only time is have tried to do it intentionally was during the Queen of Comedy Challenge I participated in a couple of months ago, for the tenth anniversary Power Reviewer celebration.

Was I funny when I did those challenges? That question I can’t answer. I think I was. But you must ask my fellow Power Reviewers that question. Will I write comedy in the future? That question I might be able to answer. The answer is, I don’t know. But I probably will. If I do, it will probably be indirect. It most likely won’t be the first or second genre category. But it will probably be the third one. If it’s in any one of the three most likely it will be the third one.

Reviewing

I never really thought of Reviewing as a genre. But the WDC does. So, I have decided to do this genre this week for my blog. Especially, since I having some problem with my reviewing. Most of those problems have been in the last week. But apparently, it has been going on for a long time. Maybe even since I started reviewing.

When I first started reviewing I repeated myself in a lot, if not the most, of my reviews. And it appears I have continued doing it to this day. Only now I have categorized them. None of them are the same. But there are a lot of repeat phrases, sentences, and even paragraphs in them.

Why have I been doing this? That I can’t answer right now. I thought I was doing the right thing. But I was wrong about that, again. I’ve done that a lot. Especially when it comes to my Reviewing. I’m working on it with a lot of help from one of the other members of the Power Reviewers group. But I know I still have a long way to go to make up for all the problems that I have caused.

I want to apologize to everyone I have given a review to that I have offended because of my unprofessionalism. Most of you have been gracious about my reviews. A few have even liked them. But there have been a lot that felt offended by them. Those are the ones I am apologizing to.

That’s enough about me. Now for the real reason for this blog. I have never written a Reviewing genre story. And I probably never will. But then again, I might. If I wrote a story about reviewing, then I would categorize it as Reviewing. It might not be my first genre. But it would probably be my second one. If not one of them it would be the third one.

Contests

I’m a very, very big fan of contest. I have entered a lot of them over the past three and a half years on the WDC. But I didn’t start entering them until almost two years into my time on the WDC. I’m not exactly sure why I decided to try contests. But it was probably the same reason I finally tried writing a Poem. I got tired of me not knowing if I could do it or not. Winning the contests and getting GPs were also a factor too.

The main reason why I joined is because of my scriptwriting. I have millions of stories lost in my mind. And I wanted to see a lot of them on the big screen and the little one aka movies and television. I’m also interested in Novel writing. I have always wanted to write a novel that millions of people loved reading. What writer doesn’t want that. The same is true when it comes to my scriptwriting too.

Maybe that’s why I hesitated so long in entering contest. After all, they are Short Stories. And I wasn’t sure if I could write one or not. When I was eight I wrote a story that was so good it was used as an example of how a story should be written. It still might be. But I doubt it. After all, that was several centuries ago.

I can’t remember why I chose this contest to enter first. But it was probably because the title of it intrigued me. No pun intended. It was the Intriguing Words Contest. Maybe I thought it said Intriguing Worlds. I can’t remember that far back. And looking at back at my portfolio hasn’t helped much. That was my first contest. But it wasn’t my last.

Daily Flash Fiction is one of the first, if not the first, contest that I did on a regular basis. I had a few individual ones before I found this contest. But it was the first one I started writing for the most. And for about six months I entered that contest almost daily. In fact, about half of my portfolio is with this contest.

Writer’s Cramp is the second most written for contest. I started entering this one toward the end of the DFF stint. And like that one, I entered it almost daily. Unlike that one, I actually won several of them and tied on a few others. The only reason why I’m not still writing them is because I’m concentrating on the WDC contest, my reviewing, and my Novel Challenge.

The Official WDC Contest wasn’t the first monthly contest that I started entering. But it’s the one I’m still doing monthly. So far, I haven’t won too many of them but I have won one of them. It was a second-place win. I’m not going to stop until I win first place. And even then, I’m not going to stop entering them.

Dialogue 500 is also a monthly contest. I haven’t written too many stories for this contest. But I have a few. ‘Scream!!!’ is another contest I have only written a few stories. The only real difference between the two is that ‘Scream!!!’ is also a daily contest.

No dialogue, Try Something New, Just One Point of View, Three Prompts, Prompt Me Trekly, are a few of the other contest that I have entered. There are some others. But I only entered them once or twice. These mentioned above I have entered more than twice. At least I think I did. But I’m not sure about that.

The last contest I want to talk about is A Whole New World contest. A Whole New World was more of an activity than a contest. But I consider it both. Especially the last month of it. That’s when we wrote a Short Story based on the five previous month’s questionnaires. That contest/activity ended at the end of January. I still haven’t heard about the winners of that activity/contest yet.

History

I am going. to be honest with you. I’m not a big fan of History. There are some parts of our history that I like. I like the Civil War and the World War Two. But I’m not too crazy about the others. Especially when it comes to Novels. To me, it’s not history if it’s a novel. It’s a biography or an autobiography. At least that’s what I think.

That’s not exactly true when it comes to movies and television. I’m still not a big fan of it. But I do watch a lot of them more often, especially television. In fact, I’m working on a historical television series as part of my Television Show Challenge that I hope to do by the end of the year. That’s one of my ‘Dear Me’ goals for this year. If I don’t do that challenge this year I should be able to do it next year.

It’s also not true when it comes to Short Stories either. I haven’t done too many historical Short Stories. I’m not even if I categorized it as a History genre. But I have done one or two of them. Probably three at the most.

The only problem that some of you might have with all this is that these historical stories aren’t about Earth. They are about other planets. And you will say that they can’t have a history because they aren’t about the Earth. But that isn’t true. All civilized planets have a history. If you do feel that way about my Short Stories, then you won’t like the one I’m doing for my Television Show Challenge.

I don’t think that I am doing any historical Novels or movies now or soon. At least they aren’t part of my challenges. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to do them. I still might. But if I do they will probably be Short Stories. They will also probably be Science Fiction.

Fanfiction

I can, and do, read all kinds of genre. Even the ones that I might not like. That’s also true when it comes to types. I’m not a big fan of non-fiction stories like articles, essays, and things like that. I can read them if I need technical help with something. But other than that, I don’t like them.

Another type I’m not crazy about is Poetry. But it’s different than non-fiction stories like the ones mentioned above. That’s because I like to read them. In fact, I have read a lot of them lately. I have also reviewed them. Part of that reason is that I am running out of Short Stories and Fiction stories that I haven’t reviewed someone for before. But the main reason is that they don’t do anything but Poetry, and they don’t have blogs.

I’m trying to review blogs as much as I can this year. But there are a lot that doesn't have blogs. So, I no choice but to review something else from them. And that often means reading their Poetry. It’s not that I’m against it. I’m just not very good at it myself. I did finally try to do one myself several months ago, but I must not have done a very good job of it. A lot of members have read it, but no one has reviewed it yet. If you want to read and review it, you will find it in this portfolio.

Poetry isn’t the only thing I’m not very good at writing. The same is true when it comes to Fanfiction. I love to read Doctor Who, the Star Trek series novels, and the Star Wars novels. But writing them, I can’t do. That’s not exactly true. I could write them if given a chance, especially when it comes to Doctor Who and the Star Treks. But no one has asked me to do it. The closest I have come to do that is with the Prompt Me Trekly contest. Which is the phony one I have been referring to whenever I mention my Poetry. But before I wrote it I did several other stories for that contest.

I don’t know if I would even if I was asked to do one. That’s because Doctor Who and the Star Trek Novels are Earth-based stories. And I don’t do them. Of course, I could do them under a Pen Name. So, I guess I could write them after all.

Dark

I know what dark means when it comes to the dark aka the night and colors. But not exactly sure about as a genre. Yes, I know it’s connected to other genres like Fantasy. Supernatural, Gothic, Horror/Scary, and the occult. Probably a few others, but Fantasy is the one that’s used the most.

What is the Dark genre? That’s one question that I can’t answer. I know what it sounds like. But not what it really is. It sounds like the bad side of itself or another genre. Am I right about that? If you are a Dark genre writer maybe you can tell me if I’m right. You can also tell me what the Dark genre is all about.

A few months ago, I tried my hand at writing Dark Fantasy. At least I think it was Dark Fantasy. It was definitely Fantasy. But I’m not sure about the Dark part. I’m not even sure how long ago I wrote this. It could be, and probably is, longer than a few months.

I also don’t remember the title of it. I’m not even sure if it’s in this portfolio. It could be in my PureSciFi account. I think it’s in this one. But I don’t know for sure without doing a search for my handles in the Dark genre category. You can do that for me. It will give you a chance to review it. I would really like to know if it was Dark Fantasy or just Fantasy.

Some of my Horror/Scary Short Stories I have written maybe Dark. I haven’t written too many of them. But I have written several. Most of them I would consider more scary than horror. I have written one or two, three at the most, that are horror. And they might be Dark too.

Only one of my stories that I have written so far is probably categorized as Dark. And that’s the one I mentioned above. I’m sure it was in the first genre category in my Item. But it could have been in the second one. And Fantasy could be in the first.

Will I write anymore Dark genre stories? I’m sure I will. In fact, I am about to work on one or more that are a part of Novel Challenge I’m going to be hosting in a few months. I don’t think any of them will be Dark genre related. But there is one of them that it could be. If not, it’s going to be as close as you can get without it not being one.

Pets

The reason why these blogs are a little late this week is because we had our Power Reviewers Raid this last weekend. And it was about Pets/Animal awareness. That’s why I decided to do my blog this week on Pets.

I know I have said all along that I wasn’t going to necessary pick a day of the week for these blogs when I decided to do them on a weekly basis. But I also said that if I did do them on a specific day it would be Friday's for my ‘The Truth About the Universe' blog and Saturday’s for this one. That’s what I have been doing up until now. All thanks to the Raid this weekend.

Don’t get me wrong. I love the Raids. And I love to participate in them. In fact, I participate them too much probably. This month I did thirty. I would have done more if I had known what the theme was this month earlier. But that’s probably why they don’t until a few days before. Because of Reviewers like me. Speaking of reviewing, are you a member of the Power Reviewers? Do you like to review. If you do then you should join us. With each review, you do you will get anywhere from 250 to 1,000 or more GPs. And everyone loves getting GPs.

I’ve only missed one Raid. But that was because of I created a few C-Notes. And I thought that would count as reviews. But I was wrong. Ever since then I have been giving out C-Notes to all newbies, birthday anniversaries, and WDC anniversaries. So, if you did join us you would be getting one right away and the other two sooner or later.

Yes, I know I have deviated from this genre topic a whole lot. But that’s because I don’t have much to say about Pets. Except that I love them. Especially dogs and cats because that’s what I have grown old with. I don’t have any at the moment. But that’s because financially I can’t. Once I start selling my Novels, Movie Scripts, and Television Shows I definitely want to be a pet owner again.

If I just wrote about pets this would be the shortest blog I have done. I have written several stories about pets and animals. But I don’t thing I have categorized them as such. If I did it would be for genre number two or probably genre number three. I’m not sure I have even done that without doing a search in those genres. You can do that for me. Then you can make that your first review once you join the Power Reviewers.
