A Journal to impart knowledge and facts
July 22, 2015

I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done.

I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them.

I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC.

Book:Travels in a thin Country by Sara Wheeler (a story about traveling in chili.)

Quote from the introduction of "Travels in a thin country" by Sara Wheeler "I set off with two carpetbags and a desire to find out what Chili was about."

Th Laia Hotel is different. It is adequate and has some definite views of the city from out suites.

Punta Arenas means Sandy Point in English. It seems to be surrounded by water. The port is a place for ships that supply Antarctic bases in West Antarctica.

There is a park near the center of town. Hotels and other important buildings are found near the park. I am impressed with the wide streets, traffic lights and regulated traffic.

Other parts of the city have older homes not quite so ornate as in some other countries we have visited.

We visited the municipal cemetery which is quite ornate. There are many statues as a part of the graves depicting angels and other spiritual things. The cemetery is full of living plants and trees and paved walkways which make it peaceful like a park.

a replica of Megellan's ship is one of the special sights in the Salesian Museum. I was impressed with many objects and paintings of original societies. Maybe there will be more time another day to see more. It is a very interesting place to learn about Chilean History.
