A Journal to impart knowledge and facts |
July 22, 2015 I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done. I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them. I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC. |
Prompt: That's the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet. Write about this in your Blog entry today. I used to play classical guitar. I stopped for a while then a few months ago I decided to resume playing. I had to do some retraining of my fingers. It is turning out to be a good thing to be doing. when I play, my pet family all sit around and listen. so, if I miss a few notes or fret a chord improperly the audience doesn't seem to notice. Over Easter I was looking at music books for classical guitar on Amazon and found, "The Davidic Cipher" by Dennis McCorkle. This is a new learning experience for me. It is about the musical importance of the psalms. It traveled me to a new dimension. My grandfather, my mother's father, sent my brother and I New Testaments, with the psalms included, when we were young children. We lived in Pa. he lived in Florida. I read the psalms long before I understood that they were musical, and long before I ever read the Old Testament. Now, I am always happy when I can find recordings of the psalms being sung by a choir or person on CD. So, this book about the historical side of the Psalms is very interesting. It shows a side of the temple worship in Israel. It also evaluates the historical movement of music down through a lot of ages and different cultures. The build and use of different musical instruments are explained. Tunings and chords have a special relevance in this book. I took a music theory class in a small bible college in the 1980's. This is an addition to knowledge acquired in years passed. As long as we are on the earth we should be adding to the knowledge of our youth. People who can write what they learn; so others can read it and share learning are special. This song will grab you with its sound and its lyrics. It has been around for a long time. It has a meaning that should be understood by anyone listening. Hal le Lu YAH. We sing YAH! Anyone who believes in one GOD will understand. This is my Easter blessing which I share with you. |
"The best road trip or vacation you've ever taken." prompt from BCoF Road trips and vacations are something I never take. For now, I have a lot of pets. No one would take care of them. And I would miss them if I went somewhere. They get upset even if I go to the grocery store. Anyway, we used to camp with horses in Texas. We kept our horses in an Airforce Base Stable. One weekend the stable governors organized a trail ride complete with a trail boss. It was a true adventure. We rode 50 miles out to camp on a lake. We means my first husband and I, When we did this, there were people who drove the cars, and this particular time, we took a boat, because the campsite was on a lake. We cooked on campfires and we water skied with the boat. It was the only time I ever water skied. Plus, the lake had a bottom that graduated downhill, so we could walk the horses out and then swim them in the lake. At a certain depth (riding bareback) I could slide backwards on the horse, grab the end of his tail, which was floating straight out behind him, and he would turn and swim back into the shallows. At that time, my horse was a Tennessee walker paint, 16 hands. A very gentle soul. After the 50-mile ride back home. I gave our horses two days off in stable and paddock, complete with baths and grooming for shine. They worked hard that weekend and deserved a rest. I don't know exactly dates for this time in my life sometime in the late 1960's. My life was different then. |
