EVACUATION by r.j.saxon =========== DECEMBER 2027 ============= heat tremendous heat, burned the already evacuated wastelands, of one village across the world. WAR, FAMINE, DROUGHT, GLOBAL WARMING, DESTRUCTION, POVERTY, CRIME... This chaos ruled the world, where had the correctness gone, the trust, the faith, the humanity. Too late for that talk !.... this was here and now. and without any law, any sign of help the world became a place of mass hysteria. For 27 years, the scientists of "N.P.R.P." A government controlled experiment named "project planet swap" had been in effect. Awaiting this uncontrollable mass earth collapse. Centred in the town of ashcroft village, formally known as "Rachel". 27 miles north from area 51. This area and 50 miles circular of this town, had become the new American selection area, contained inside a enormous biospheric bubble. home to scientists, doctors, pilots, mechanics, rocket scientists, and people of value, classed as the "important's". The rest of humanity, outside this area and around the world, the unused humans, had become violent animals fighting for what remained of the savaged earth. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHAPTER 1 ========= 27TH OCTOBER 2054 (first day of project (planet swap, a 10 day event ) 9.00am ================ "Spencer" , ' shouted Lisa from the garage, as she packed the rest of the family's belongings in the range rover. essential items were to be taken and nothing more, due to the weight restrictions, that (N.P.R.P) , which stood for, (New. Planet. Relocation. Programme.) had set. "yeah" replied Spencer from the front room of their 2 bedroom town house. "can you grab my mobile, its next to the bookcase" "Lisa, there's no point taking your phone, you wont be able to use it, once were inside of the launch base," said Spencer in a matter of fact tone, "I know, but I need to make a call on the way." "ok" replied Spencer in a huff. at that moment janie the 8 year old daughter of Lisa and Spencer came running down the stairs, and into the garage grabbing her mothers leg. "mommy did you pack Jake, I cant find him anywhere"said janie in a fretful manner Jake was her cuddly bear, companion. said Lisa as she kissed janie on the top of her head. "yes sweetie he's in the back of the car." said Lisa as she kissed janie on the top of her head. janie smiled up at Lisa, "thank you mommy" janie replied. Lisa opened the drivers side of the car and climbed in, janie jumped into the back, Lisa switched on the radio, but as usual the stations crackled nothing but the broadcast of (N.P.R.P) filled the airwaves. today was a different broadcast than previous weeks, which had been the build up to today, the explanation of priority travellers, which ranged from 1st priority (N.P.R.P) employees which included Lisa and Spencer they worked in the i.t. dept. of (N.P.R.P), to the homeless, and over 70's, last on the list. "phase 1 of evacuation in progress, green barcode travellers must be at the launch base by no later than 10.00am, and have the correct amount of weight restricted baggage" Spencer jumped into the passenger side of the car, he turned to janie in the back and smiled, she smiled back, Lisa, "put on your safety masks" said Spencer, radiation levels had still not yet resided and were recommended to be worn when outside of ashcroft village. Spencer started up the car, then pressed the remote control to the garage doors, as the doors raised the heat instantly, beamed into the car, Spencer turned on the air conditioning, as they all put on their special sunglasses manufactured by (N.P.R.P), the UV rays had become intolerable, they drove onto the street and joined the procession of traffic, from ASHCROFT VILLAGE, (N.P.R.P'S) employee settlement, "daddy" said janie.. "yeah, sweetheart" replied Spencer, "will there be other little girls like me on our new planet" janie spoke shyly "sure honey, they'll be lots of new friends for you to make there" janie smiled with excitement, Spencer turned to Lisa and offered her a reassured smile, Lisa smiled back with uncertainty as she drove out of the village and onto the motorway, heading for the launch base... |
