Welcome to Whatsit's Wild World.

Sometimes I think we're all tightrope walkers suspended on a wire two thousand feet in the air, and so long as we never look down we're okay, but some of us lose momentum and look down for a second and are never quite the same again: we know.

I-55 southbound was solidly jammed with traffic this morning. Everybody on the earth is trying to go back home from where they evacuated from Gustav. Good thing I travel north to work, but I'll find another route home. Now I wonder what Hannah, Ike, and Josephine are going to do.

My mother told me not to come to the hospital yesterday because all of Buddy's relatives were there, and the little hospital room was full. She called later and sounded relieved that everybody had left, although two were coming back so stay with her. Thank goodness she's been able to sleep up there at the hospital. She's been letting whoever else was up there sit up with Buddy at night while she rests.

I got to spend a couple of hours at home last night before going to spend the night with my grandmother. It was nice.

The sun has come out, finally.

My hair looks better. Probably because I stuck it in a clip right on top of my head.

I decided to come up with something to keep myself occupied while I'm staying with my grandmother, so I'm cross stitching. My mother taught me how when I was little. I hadn't done it in years, but about a year ago I had a wild hair to take it up again, so I bought all the stuff. I decided to do my principal a Christmas present - heh heh, a little money in the bank won't hurt, plus it's very therapeutic. Just sitting and watching TV can get boring sometimes.

My grandmother likes to watch America's Got Talent. I had never seen it before. I'm prejudiced against all the current shows. I think they're kind of dumb. I wish something like Carol Burnett would come on, although that's not really in vogue now.

I watched Sarah Palin give her speech last night. I like her a lot better than I do . . . well, ANY of the rest of them, if you want to know the truth. I like the fact that she sent the Governor's personal chef home and put the Executive Jet Plane on E-bay to save the taxpayers money. *Laugh*

I have to go get ready for students. Y'all have a good day.

Here's the rundown:

1. Yesterday I went to the hospital after work. It's about 15 minutes from my job. Then home for about a minute, it seemed like. Then over to my mother's so I can spend the night with my grandmother. This is going to be the plan for the duration while Buddy is sick.

2. Buddy WAS acting fine. He has acted absolutely normal until his admission to the hospital Sunday night. Upon being told he has from a few minutes to a few weeks to live, it was like turning a switch. He spends the majority of his time sleeping. When he's awake, his mind drifts. He spent about thirty minutes yesterday morning thinking he was driving a school bus, which is what he has been doing for the past few years. His brother said that was a reaction to the shock. I also heard that morphine will do it. It was just surprising to me, the sudden change from being normal to sleeping all the time and drifting in his mind.

3. I have been reading your blogs but not commenting on them. It takes too much time, which I don't have right now.

4. It's still raining from Gustav. It's been raining since . . . I can't remember when it started. Sunday night or Monday, it seems like. I like rain, but enough of anything is enough.

5. Thank you, Mr.Monk- GPs for the poor for the pink thing-a-ma-bob on my blog.

Now you know what I know.

Oh, and one more thing:

Scarlett, please close your eyes since this will mess up my 5 items.

The rain has my hair looking like . . . well, I wish it looked as good as Morticia's. At least hers was long and sleek and shiny. Who had long fuzzy hair on TV? I haven't gotten to the Phyllis Diller point YET, but Gustav has given me a major step in that direction.
