My primary Writing.com blog.
Logocentric (adj). Regarding words and language as a fundamental expression of an external reality (especially applied as a negative term to traditional Western thought by postmodernist critics).

Sometimes I just write whatever I feel like. Other times I respond to prompts, many taken from the following places:

"Barrel of MonkeysOpen in new Window. | Day 10

"Need You Now"
by Lady A
from Need You Now (2009)

This entry isn't so much about the song as the band and all of their misfortune with their name lately. For those of you who haven't heard, in light of all of the recent talk about racism and the ongoing legacy of slavery and the South, Lady Antebellum (and the Dixie Chicks) decided to change their band name to remove references to their Southern Roots. But while Dixie Chicks became "The Chicks" and both checked with and celebrated the fact that they share a name with a band from New Zealand, Lady Antebellum decided to change their name to "Lady A" without realizing that there was already a fairly prominent African American musician using that stage name... and then sued said musician over the name.

I'm not sure that's really the best way to prove that you're sensitive to racial tensions, but sure. You do you, Lady A. *RollEyes*

"In My Head"
by Jason DeRulo
from Jason DeRulo (2010)

This is one of the most played songs on my iTunes, thanks in large part to the fact that I put it on repeat and then accidentally left it on all night. So while I can't claim that it's one of my favorite songs in the world, I do enjoy it from time to time. But probably not as much as my iTunes listening library would imply, which has it literally with hundreds and hundreds of plays.

So I guess you could say this was definitely my "most listened to" track of 2010. *Laugh*

"S&M"
by Rihanna
from Loud (2011)

All due blame credit due to JayNaNoOhNo Author Icon for introducing me to redaction poetry, where you take existing text and selectively redact sections to create a poem from what's left. Naturally I immediately through of turning an already dirty song into even dirtier poetry. This one's stretching the 18+ rating of this blog... definitely NSFW, folks. *Scared*

Full Redaction Poem

FORMATTED

come on...

feels so good being bad
pain is my pleasure
chains and whips
excite me

come on...
come on...

the affliction leaves
me wanting more

i may be bad
but I’m perfectly
good at it

come on...
come on...
come on...

i like it
i like it

oh...
oh...
you turn me on

give it to me
strong

make my body
say ah, ah, ah

sex in the air
i don’t care

come on...
come on...
come
