Well said my friend. GHW Bush was one of that quickly vanishing "Greatest Generation". Their values have often been extolled by those of us who came later, but rarely lived up to. He was a Gentleman of the Old School and his like will be sorely missed.

Sarah - you're right in saying that empathy and respect don't seem to exist anymore. I find it interesting that I wrote this particular entry 7 years ago and the nature of politics here in the US has devolved even more, certainly it hasn't improved.

I'm so sorry that your situation in Zimbabwe is so tumultuous. It's frightening to think about where we are headed.

The Buck stops with the individual American, you and me, but I am not sure how 'WE' make the difference. I don't want to just whine and complain -- not saying you are---I want to present a solution to go with my complaining. Unfortunately, I don't have one. It could be I am not awake while attempting to write this. I blame my son for waking me up so early......

Know that I agree with you, it sure looks like we are going to hell in a hand basket. I suppose stuffing our head in the sand won't fix things but I feel like doing it....

Party - you're right - it's only getting worse. If there was even a sliver of hope that a real leader might step up, I could find it in myself to feel better about it all. But so far.... BUPKUS! (Is that how you spell bupkus?)

Oh, and PS, don't think I don't have my own stash of weapons. I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid.

Well, I'm one of them crazy gun-toting right wing whackos!

I'm so far right the Tea Party looks like a bunch of hippies!

But that is the problem, and I'm afraid it's not getting better, only worse. I have never seen such a HUGE division between the citizens of America as I'm seeing now. I love politics, but I'm not quite ready for 2012 yet. Need to take my vitamins every day and eat lots of Wheaties before then.

I agree with Special Kay.

You've written a precise over iew of the political hell the US in wrapped up in right now. I don't think anyone can change anything now, whatever name he calls himself. Governments and their powerful lobbies have sold us to the devil, and we're bound on this hell ride just like we were on our way to WWII's concentration camps.

I'm reminded of the old saying. "Put a good person into a bad system, and the bad system wins every time." This is the problem. The whole system is so broken that it almost doesn't seem to matter anymore who is holding what office.

Your nose is CLOSER to the camera... of course it might seem a little larger...

Now. Mirrors. There's something called drapes. Black drapes. If someone asks tell them you are in mourning. If they d.a.r.e ask what, tell them you are mourning your youth. If they d.a.r.e... Well, black drapes will also work well for their funeral...

(And it is a custom for some folks to cover mirrors when someone dies...)
