I've only waited 6 years to comment on this. Private health insurance in Oz is "community rated" that is, you pay the same premium whether you are young and healthy or old and sick. So the young and healthy tend to avoid private cover which pushes up the premiums. The ideal form of health insurance is self-insurance, but it requires financial self-control of a very high order. Each year you put into a separate interest-bearing bank account the amount you would otherwise pay to a health insurance company, and let the balance accumulate. But, (and it's a huge BUT) you must never, ever use that money to pay the mortgage, buy your kids computers, upgrade your car or whatever. Just use it to pay health costs. And I've seen it said that two thirds of all the health care costs you will ever incur will be incurred in the six months before you die. Keep that balance available
Ah yes, the old drawn and quartered method. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Fortunately, nowadays we have respawn. Or at least the ability to pretend we can respawn. So go ahead, pretend this is a video game, hand yourself a healing potion and jump back in to battle.
Thank you! Green and brown! Of course!
How could I have forgotten split pea soup? So easy to make and after you toss in a few chunks of ham you have a meal!
I consider myself somewhat of a soup connoisseur and the category you left out is green which can be made with broccoli, spinach, green peas or asparagus. You may want to include the brown category although it's not very common. You will get brown soup when using lentils of the brown variety and then buzz it in a blender.
Also, just for clarity and cause I like being a stickler, red soup can be made from beets as well.
I commend you on your insight and refreshing observations on this very timely subject. You can't beat a bowl of homemade soup and freshly baked bread with butter on a chilly autumn day!
Have a groovy day.
I believe in universal coverage like Annalisa ( AL) writes about in Sweden. (She was hospitalized recently, surgery... the whole shebang and was left with a bill of less than $100). Or the coverage they have in Costa Rica.
I do not believe in the insurance industry profit structure (what a scam!).
I agree with the SM that insurance is a sharing-of-the-burden. I just want that burden to be shared by everyone with the benefits going for everyone.
