Dark
27. Write a post inspired by the word: dark

There are books and films which are described as dark. It’s hard to pin down the actual meaning when one describes anything as such. Maybe it’s how the book/film affects your mood.
Music can be described as dark or light. Leonard Cohen’s music can be quite sobering but beautiful in its own way. The subject matter of a piece of art, photograph or painting can make the viewer feel somber. A person can be described as being dark, secretive. They exude a feeling of being untrustworthy.

People can be afraid of the dark, not being able to see what may be lurking in the shadows can cause unfounded fears. Ghost stories of monsters lurking under the bed are best told in the dark for maximum affect.

In stories the villain nearly always has dark hair and eyes. He’s rarely fair skinned and blue eyed. Stories begin “It was a dark and stormy night... Rarely, “The sun was shining brightly....”
The Cambridge English Dictionary defines dark as sad and without hope.
It’s a marvellous word. Used in so many ways, describing so much.
