Don’t think, just do it
The only occasion I can think of was a time I’d gone with my daughter and her friend who’d booked into a abseiling lesson. The only reason I was there was to document the event, take photos etc. I stood with the group, simply as an observer, watched the safety demonstration and listened to the instructions. I was thinking that I was pleased I didn’t have to do it, when they read out the roll call and Lo and behold my daughter had paid for me to do it too! She thought it would be a nice surprise. Actually she knew I’d have run a mile if she’d told me. Anyway the instructor said “ Who’s going first?” Without even giving myself time to freak out I volunteered and stepped backwards off the cliff.
So yes, it was spontaneous because I wouldn’t have done it if I’d had time to think about it.
