Friends
PROMPT September 13th
Write about friendships that are more like family. What makes a great friend?
I don’t describe myself as a great friend myself, but I have two amazing friends who would do anything for me. I’m in awe of their selflessness. I have known these two women for over thirty years, I met them at a playgroup. None of us knew each other until then. I was there with my granddaughter who was two years old and they were with their own kids too. Of course I’m a different generation being fifteen years their junior, but it made no difference to our relationships. At times I sought to let them go, thinking they are so much younger, why would they want to hang about with me. But... as I write this we’re planning a girl’s weekend away. So? What makes a good friend? I would say sustainability, concern, commonality, similar outlook, and above all a sense of humour. Above all, being there for each other, in good times and bad.
