Break Out
The sound of his voice -
a rush of intent that
surrounds in a cold embrace,
spitting frigid words
like the wind that greets
the first crocus to break out
of winter’s sere and lifeless
ground, daring to raise a head
and pelted by the last raw wintry
blast. It is powerless to
stop your Spring, but
the emotionless goodbye
makes you drop the phone and tremble like a flower.
