Running towards the line
in the sand
no time
at hand

to ask whether to cross
it,
the cost
of quitting

more than he can cope
with today
as he lopes
but—then to his dismay—

stumbles.
Words are tossed
and pages crumbled,
lost

to the other side
where critics gather the balderdash
and quickly decide—
it's trash.
