'Twas midnight and my little bat
did flipter and flappter through the sky.
All shining was the grinning cat
and noonmoths on high.
“Beware the Polymorph, my girl,
the shapes that change, the toenails sharp.
Shun the Vernom Eel who curls
'round Tyrangantic Shark.”
She took her pencils in her hand,
and slipped among the Waking Trees
and sought the changing night sleepsand—
then rested, fully at her ease,
but while in easy rest she stood,
the Polymorph, with sea green eyes
came swiftly through the Lively Wood
and changed the midnight skies.
One, two, one, two. She swiftly drew.
Then closed her sketchpad with a snap.
She made a friend, and then began
to paint the sharp, sharp toenails black.
“And hast thou tamed the Polymorph!
Come to my arms, my Brillish girl.
Oh joysome night! Glittereem bright!”
She danced the Poly-whirl.
Twas midnight and my little bat
did flipter and flappter through the sky.
All shining was the grinning cat
and noonmoths on high.
