Form: Qasida
The elements of the Qasida are:
1. narrative poetry. It tells a story.
2. stanzaic, written in a string of shers (complete couplets), the poem is usually long and may be as long as 100 shers, length is optional. For this round please keep it 24 lines or less.
3. meter optional, but the lines should be equal length.
4. rhymed. There are some variable in the rhyme scheme. The entire poem an be mono-rhymed, aa aa aa. . . or monorhymed couplets aa bb cc dd. etc, with "running incremental refrain" in each even line, but the most common and for this round, the couplets have a running rhyme aa xa xa xa xa xa. . .
5. originally written as a desert poem in 4 units each can be one or several couplets long. The units are:
a. opening setting describes or recalls ancient times.
b. tale of lost love or things left behind.
c. the struggles of the journey and its endurance.
d. plea for honor or praise.
