The Martyrdom of The Bab
The Martyrdom of The Bab
The silence
in the market square way palatable,
the crowd listen
to the last words of Siyyid Ali-Muhammad--
descend of the Prophet Muhammad
through His grandson Husayn Ali.
The crowd waited,
inhaled as The Bab
and Anis
hung suspended
before the regiment
of rifles ready
to fire.
The regiment fired,
the bodies of the The Bab
and Anis were merged.
Their deaths did not prevent
the renewal of religion
through Baha'u'llah
the promised one of all religions.
This is poem number 20 in a series of 200 I am writing to celebrate the Bicentenary of the Birth of The Bab. This poem was inspired by The Bab: The Dawn and Herald of the Baha’i Era by Steve McLean.
