Lies
Lies

I believed the Tinseltown lies
that heroes in white hats
never took a single bullet wound
while evil villains fell
by the score
to one shot each.

I believed the Tinseltown lies
that heroes were perfect
with clear goals to achieve
and no character flaws
or doubts
or criminal intent.

I believed the Tinseltown lies
that all enemies were bad guys
with black hearts
and no wives to weep
or children waiting
for Daddy to come home.

I believed the Tinseltown lies
that this world was black and white
with clarity in conflict
where one either sided with good
or succumbed to evil
and fought for Satan.

I never knew
how complex real life was
or that there might be
two sides to a debate
and the enemies of today
would be the allies of tomorrow.

I was deceived.
