Hitler's Staff Car
Hitler's Staff Car
I saw Hitler's staff car
It was dark
not black.
Black is beautiful!
Black is the color
of the midnight sky
alive with dancing stars.
It is the color
of fertile soil
laid down by generations of swollen rivers.
That car was ugly!
Ugly as an abandoned building
decorated with gang graffiti.
Dark as a room
during a power-out.
Dark and ugly
like a hate filled mind.
I wrote this poem sometime in 1988. Mom and I went to a hotel-casino that had a display of antique cars. The casino no longer exists because it was demolished and replaced by another one. I think it was located on West Sahara Avenue on the corner of Rancho. Some of the cars on display were Hitler's Staff Car and the car Bonnie & Clyde drove. I think the car driven by Bonnie & Clyde had bullet holes in it. I'm not sure why I chose Hitler's car to write a poem about. I did a little rewriting when put this poem in this journal because I thought it needed some work.
