Day 27 - CONTEST: Plot Background Story
“Good afternoon, your imperial highness,” Esther greeted meekly. Empress Zoey stared her down with tired eyes before looking back to the crib holding her baby. “How is little Prince Oscar faring?”
“He’s looking much better,” Zoey sighed. “If my husband had given him more time to recover, he wouldn’t have given your son the right to the throne.”
“I assure you I don’t relish in your son’s denouncement, your imperial highness,” Esther said. “I don’t believe this was what my parents meant when they asked John to give Sebastian a place in the court.”
Zoey didn’t look back at her. Instead she pressed her thumb on Oscar’s tiny palm for him to grasp. Esther carefully approached and knelt at the empress’ feet.
“Please, your imperial highness,” Esther begged. “Don’t have your child shun Sebastian because of what John did.”
“I’ll consider it,” Zoey said softly. “You may now excuse yourself.”
Esther curtsied and left the room without another word.
