Our Last Summer
I can still recall our last summer,
Sailing on your boat every day when it didn't
rain. You got out your guitar and played songs
and we sang until late in the night then made love.
Going to plays and operas, back to sailing and walks
along the beach. The beautiful cat you got for me. You
had to leave because your job demanded it. We went to a
French Café and went to art museums and danced in the rain.
I can still recall our last summer. A party with friends on
the beach. Seashells you found me. We watched the sunset across
the ocean. A bon fire and I left for a few minutes and came back
to find you with someone else. You told me you were engaged.
I was just someone to pass the time away until she came back.
I was out in the cold. You left with her and made a life. Our last
summer. Sad. I will always recall our last summer and I had to move
on. I sat on the beach sands and someday, I will be alright.
