Prayer for Today: A Gloss Poem

Prayer For Today

"Lord, help me
to live my life
just one day at a time."

Author Unknown

Lord, help me
to be free
of vain imaginations--
that come to me
in times of personal conflagrations
causing me consternation--
that confirm
my low self-esteem:
Lord, help me

to live my life
without excess strife,
to exorcise all prejudice--
that complicates my life
and generates interpersonal strife--
to accept the unchangeable,
to alter the changeable,
and the ability to know the difference:
to live my life

just one day at a time.
Let me make my life a rhyme
to the moment at hand.
Allowing me to perform
my song in the universal band.
Give me the talent
and desire
to help humanity:
just one day at a time.

Form: Gloss1 is "a poem that comments upon a texte.., which is written in staves."2
