On this day in 1454, Amerigo Vespucci was born in Florence, Italy...Matthias Ringmann, a German mapmaker, named the American continent in his honor. What unexpected places have your personal explorations led you to?

Most of the unexpected places I have personally explored, have been in Las Vegas. I am, and have always been, directionally challenge. The only time I can tell East from West is at sunrise or sunset, which means if I drive, unless it is a road I've taken numerous times before, I will get lost 99% of the time. Mapquest doesn't help, because I can get lost following them. In fact, I have gotten lost following Mapquest directions. My basic problem is when I turn in one direction, I believe I've turned in the opposite direction.

I have learned to deal with this issue by enjoying the scenery wherever I go. My family has learned to ask me where I'm going, and tell me where I should have turned off. This directional issue never stopped me from driving to California to go to Disney Land or visit relatives. When I ask for directions, I usually as a woman because most of the women I know give excellent directions. I have never gotten lost when a woman gave me directions. However, I have gotten lost numerous times when men give me directions.
