The Nocturne of Waiting
When mine eyes do linger from their sleeping,
Weary thoughts all cause my peace to swiftly pass,
Light from phone still keeps my sleep from creeping
Into heart, my mind and body at the last.
Dark calls to dark, while dreams they flee the mind.
Sounds of fans and flight, the orchestra unending.
The cars are passing, unseen as though we’re blind.
Quiet taunts the weary soul, awake, unbending.
Nightingales and whippoorwills send their latest tweets,
Rabbits scamper to their homes, the owls they ask their “Who”s.
My Dear, the deer visit garden taking nightly treats.
O, give me sleep and rest my pate apart from jumping ewes.
