Complicity
Complicity
I rush along; the woods fly by
obscuring sky
yet something’s wrong,
doesn’t belong.
I slow. The trees consumed with blight
in fading light.
The streams impure
and can’t endure.
Tears fill my eyes. I understand
we’ve hurt the land
through ignorance.
No second chance.
Am I the problem or the cure?
I am unsure.
I have to know
Please – Yes or No?
The answer lies within my mind;
it’s there I find
my guilt, my shame.
I am to blame.
It comes from turning a blind eye.
I can’t deny
It’s clear to see
complicity.
What’s past is past; that much is true
but me - and you -
must do our part
to heal Earth’s heart.
We cannot just stand idly by -
the Earth will die.
Without a cure
there's no future.
