Flights of Fancy
Flights of Fancy
Radiance refracted;
colors of the sunset fade.
Cherry coated clouds
melt into aubergine coal.
The stars climb, singing ancient
canticles as the legends gather;
my mind touches each
jeweled story and moves on.
There flies Pegasus of Herculean fame,
master of the wind;
Draco, the hundred-headed dragon
who guarded the golden apples
of the Hesperides;
Hydra, the twisting snake
encircling galaxies
as Aquila, the Eagle,
soars above star filled mountains.
A soft fluttering of wings
sends gentle ripples through
the moon lanced darkness.
Dancing in a cold spotlight,
a moth,
the heir of dragons,
traces magical runes
in the chill night air.
A lonely blossom reaches
into the cottony silence
offering its sweet embrace,
the nectar of its heart.
Magic lives.
