Just For One Night

It was just for one night,
the stars were twinkling and bright,
we pushed hot dogs and marshmallows
onto small sticks removed from pine trees
and roasted them over an open fire.

This camping trip was unplanned,
a spur-of-the-moment decision,
so we didn't have either tents
or sleeping bags,
and went to sleep in the car.

It was fun
and I was young,
sleeping in the car
is fine when you're under 30,
but the older you get
the more difficult it becomes
and the more important
indoor toilets are.
