Empty train car
except for me
pacing in the aisle
waiting for the end of the line

What’s that?
Wedged way down
in the seat I just passed
a book
no, a journal!
Hidden for a reason
or perhaps simply left behind
by a careless passenger?

Tempted to read
with good intentions or bad
it’s difficult to tell
curiosity tugs at both ends

Surrendering to impulse
I begin to read
and discover a world
in the pages
that I couldn’t imagine
Is this for real
or the fanciful fantasies
of an eccentric mind?
