A Daughter's Pain
You stepped in when he did not.
He took for granted what he got.
You were there in times of need,
he fulfilled his selfish greed.
You became my loving father,
he refused to even bother.
Years passed by, you remain,
he showed up to try and explain.
This child grew up to be a woman,
before too long a son at my bosom.
The pride I saw in you that day
more than made up for the price I paid.
You went home, you had to go.
Now I wonder, did you know?
You gave me strength to face the pain
of a child forgotten by one so vain.
You filled the gap to take on this role,
giving me love, making me whole.
A father’s love, what a priceless gift.
He’s still too busy to take a shift.
That’s my tale, it’s sad but true,
about the daughter he never knew.
