grapevines weave
over, under,
step back step front step touch
walk walk walk touch
quick quick slow quick quick
quick quick slow quick quick
grapevine
faster—
and again,
faster every time
until every foot races
and every mouth laughs
and the caller bows
and the fiddler squeals to a stop,
and our arms change
to another line—
and grapevines weave.
