talk Tuesday! Do you consider hot dogs to be in the "sandwich" category? What about tacos, wraps, or foods served in pita breads? And what, in your opinion, makes a really good sandwich? Are you a simple bread/meat/cheese person, or do you go all-out when creating your sandwich feast? The sea was our main entertainment. When company came, we set them before it on rugs, with thermoses and sandwiches and colored umbrellas, as if the water - blue, green, gray, navy or silver as it might be - were enough to watch. One of my sons and I used to cook Pita Bread. It's good with sandwich fixings of all kinds. I keep frozen wraps. Walmart sells wraps in a large flat closable bag. I take the bag home open it up cut them in half and place parchment paper between each wrap. When I want one I take one out and lay it on the rack in my oven for about one minute at 350 degrees. Then I fill it with yummy things. I have spinach wraps and tomato herb wraps presently for sandwiches. the thing about wraps is you can wrap up anything to eat it. At a sub shop I put all kinds of things on my subs but I don't eat dressing on subs because of the caloric count. Beside the dressing in a sub shop is more likely to make you ill than the ingredients being served. I like black olives because they give a lot of flavor to sandwiches. Peanut butter and jelly is still a favorite in our household. It is still good on plain bread. Sandwiches need to be filling and healthy. It is a good way to get your fresh vegetables for the day. Lettuce, tomato, onions, peppers, sliced thin cooked sweet potato, dill pickles, fresh spinach, black olives are all good. If I ever lose my teeth I will put all the ingredients in a blender and eat my sandwiches mushed up. Cheese is always good for a sandwich. In the fall and winter especially we like toasted Swiss cheese with our soup. Of course, cheese is good where ever you can find a place for it. If you eat to much of it you will be in the gym for some extra hours. Try throwing cooked rice, slightly fried tomato and spinach in a touch of olive oil and feda cheese in a wrap. Yummy. A sandwich can be a whole meal or a snack it is whatever you make of it. |
