Sorry, I Cannot Relate to This Prompt...
PROMPT: War Chest Wednesday! Most families have sent a relative to fight in their country's wars. Indicate the relationship you had with a family member who went to war and what his/her going or returning meant to you as a child or as an adult, depending on the relationship. Nope, I never had a relationship with anyone who served my country in the military. The closest I came is my husband's brother who set up field hospitals. Kinda strange because he grew up binging on the television show 'Mash'. Yep, he served as a supply clerk, but I don't know if he's more Klinger, or the other guy, Radar... He also didn't serve in an active war zone either. Anyway, he and my hubby are not close, and I am not privy to his army history. My maternal grandmother's father served as a sergeant in the British army during W.W.1, and he died in combat before she was born. I only know of this because of genealogy research. I wrote and entered a piece in a WDC contest describing what I learned.
My mother was raised by her mother and a stepfather, not knowing her birth father. My grandfather served with the Canadian Navy between the Great Wars. I plan to research his history in the future. One of his nephews, a first cousin to my Mom, also served in the Canadian Navy. So far, we have corresponded via phone calls and e-mails. My Mother died before she could meet him. I never knew any relatives on active military duty, so I cannot speak as to a relationship, or my thoughts regarding their deployment(s).
