Train Travel
Fun Fact Friday! On this day in 1834, the first mainland railway line opened in Belgium. Have you ever taken a train trip? Not like a subway ride, but an actual passenger train? Tell us about it! If you haven't, would you? Where would you like to go?

Yes. Yes. Trains. I love trains. I collect Thomas Trains. Recently, my grandson came into possession of several new engines which he donated to my collection.

There is a passenger ride in Titusville, Pennsylvania, USA, "The Oil Creek & Titusville Railroad. http://www.octrr.org/ The ride is a 3 hour trip through the Oil Creek Valley. There is a post office on the train so you can mail post cards to friends. The cars were built by the Pullman Company in the 19'30's. Opening day in 2017 is in June. I love the Gondola car. It is open air. Lots of good views from this car for taking pictures. They have murder mystery rides which I have never taken but would like to someday. It passes through a state park where bike riders in the park can buy tickets and get off or on to ride bike trails.

There is also a Caboose Motel adjacent to the starting point for the ride. A gift shop offers home made items and souvenirs of the Oil Creek Valley and the train ride.

Modern trains are probably faster and have different types of built in comforts . I read about them sometimes. After all the bad publicity recently about airplanes it seems like trains would be a reasonable alternate route. If airlines have to crowd people together to get where they are going people need to find a better way to travel. If I ever have money and opportunity I will ride a more modern version.

Erie has some people who are considering a passenger train solution to transportation. The news media has explained that a train from Cleveland to Erie and other points would bring people a transportation alternative for jobs and shopping. So far, it's just talk no action.
