The Violin

The violin with four taut strings
can lift the spirit high.
This latest music greatly sings
of songs of By and By.

But songs of now on skillful bow
will help my life today
As tones of living things I know
will make me hope and play.

Perform the violin quite well
is ever greatest goal
That skills may offer praise to tell
of One Who's made me whole.

For many years my music flows
from voice and whitest keys,
And now my heart it plainly knows
that string vibration frees.

Piano strings we hammer hard
or soft as case may be.
The violin we bow like bard
that all the world may see.

The tuba was my friend in youth
and I would play again,
If money could be found in truth
to buy this largish friend.

But now I resin up the bow,
relax the shoulder thus
To play a tune quite merry so
my talent all could trust.
