The 30 DBC prompt for march 23, 2017 is "What are some of your favorite things about springtime?"

S

ring is a very special time of the year here in West Virginia. Life begins to transition from the dead, dormancy of winter into the vibrant llfe of summer. One of the first signs of spring here in the Mountain State are the flowers. A flower grows wild here that some refer to as a buttercup and others call "Easter lilies".I'm sure they have an actual name but I have no idea what it is. I just know that seeing them each spring is a welcome sight after the long months of winter. They are a very hearty flower and grow starting toward the end of February. I have actually seen them covered with snow before but they always make it. They stand in contrast to the harsh connnditions around them, a sure sign that relief is just around the corner.

Another sure sign of spring is the return of the red-breasted robin. This is a migrating bird and you never see them around West Virginia during the winter. Each spring though they return to mate and have their young. When you see one you know that the harshh days of winter are now behind you.

Another sure sign of spring and one you don't hear in town, is the chirping of bullfrogs at night. The bullfrogs attract mates by chirping and croaking. The frog that croaks the loudest attracts the most mates and believe me the competition gets fierce! People who live in the country or areas with a pond of water nearby are greeted by the symphony of bullfrogs every night for several weeks during the spring.

Another big sign of spring is watching the trees begin to bud again. The budding of the leaves usually follows cherry blossom time, which is around the first of March. The leaves typically begin coming back on in April and are in full bloom by May.

The final sign of spring in West Virginia is warmer temperatures. Our average heat during the summer can reach as high as 100 degrees with 100% saturated humidity. The spring temperature increase is the beginning of the onslaught.

The Blog City Prompt Forum prompt for March 23, 2017 is ""For I remember it is Easter Morn and life and love and peace are all new born." Let's write about Easter."

A

s a Christian, Easter holds special significance for me because it is the time of Passover and my Lord was crucified during Passover in 33AD. His resurrection, on which the hope of all Christians is based, occurred the day following Passover. So Easter hold special significance in that respect. However the word of God doesn't teach us that the Apostles celebrated the resurrection only once per year. They celebrated it every week as we should do. Every passage of scripture that specifically states what the Apostles and the early church did states that they held some things in common in their worship: fellowship, the Lord's Supper, prayer, singing, and preaching. The Lord's Supper appears to have been a regular celebration carried out at least weekly. The Lord's Supper is specifically stated as having the purpose of serving as a celebration of the Lords's death, burial, and resurrection. The celebration we know as Easter did not come about until centuries after the founding of the church, when the ruling Catholic church adopted it to prevent pagans from slipping back into their pagan solstice celebrations. Many of the symbols of Christian Easter celebrations are based on pagan roots. The eggs we color are actually based on the Egyptian goddess Isis, who is said to be significant in the resurrection of a male demi-god. The male god was Adonis who then married Ashtorah and new life is said to come from their mating. The pagans had a major feat each year at this time and the former pagans wanted to leave the church to resume the celebration. Instead of losing it's member the Catholic church compromised and adopted the celebration saying it represented the resurrection of the one true God.

T{/droppcap}here are many things that research says one should do that I don't do. For one thing I don't have the time nor the energy to stay abreast of all the latest research. man's knowledge base doubles almost daily so what we thought was correct yesterday has been proven wrong today. I for one simply don't have the time to be reading and chasing the latest research. I certainly don't have the time nor often the resources to apply the latest research. So no, I don't practice what they teach about screen time. Instead I often leave my computer at night and go directly to bed where I'm asleep in just a few minutes.
