Dumbstruck Day

          I was reminded once again that this is March 15th, The Ides Of March. Shakespeare decided it would be a great day to kill off his character Julius Caesar. Curious, I researched and found other disasters that occurred on this auspicious day. Oh sure there were many catastrophes, but one seems to have almost repeated itself recently. Back in 1941, a "deadly blizzard" raged on the Great Plains of the U.S. and Canada. Lately, large snowstorms have swooped in across both of these countries. Maybe history does repeat itself?

          Someone, somewhere, for some implausible reason, decided that today is National Dumbstruck Day. Huh... I could feasibly argue that this particular day has been an ongoing one since Trump announced his intentions to run for office. Many of us have been stunned, shocked, surprised, stupefied, astonished, and mystified. Yep, all these words cover the general idea behind dumbstruck. Anyway, I digress, and ramble...

         So, in response to today's blog prompt, I answer a simple "no". I don't tend to follow, or subscribe to any one specific blog. I "blog around." That's right, I browse different blogs. Mostly I feel a connection to the humorous ones. There's enough godawful news to stomach every morning. Too many top news stories seem unbelievable, or fabricated, or poorly reported. I search for a laugh...

          Here's a blog site I recommend: http://www.theonion.com It can best be described as a funny news site. Here, the inane, the ridiculous, and the silly are offered to tickle our funny bones. Today, it featured a "news photo" of a partially shovelled driveway with this headline: Lofty Ambitions To Shovel Entire Width Of Driveway Scaled Back To Only Shoveling Thin Path For Car. A featured article had the title, Study Finds Dangers Even In Casual Bullfighting. "Researchers say fighting a bull as infrequently as once a week can still lead to a variety of acute and chronic health problems among bullfighters. To avoid possible complications, your safest bet is to stay away from bulls altogether." This 'article' really struck me as absurd; Man Putting Off Starting Family To Focus On Treading Water In Career For Few Years. Dennis Fitzpatrick is quoted as saying, "I want to settle down eventually, but, before I do, I want to make sure I spend a bit more time going nowhere in my job." There must be "no discernible upward progress at work for a while longer before he could even think about having children." Could there be some truth to this?

          I stumbled across a new-to-me humour blog just today: http://annsrants.com This blogger bills herself as a stay-at-home humorist, and, yes, she writes about the funny side of mommyhood. Today's entry, titled The Ides of Blahhhhh, describes a bleary day instead of an anticipated Spring. "March comes in like a lion - a dirty damp lion named BLAH who blows your neighbor's recyclables across your muddy excuse for a lawn." I believe I shall re-visit this blog.
