Being a Christian

In what ways ha being a child of God changed my life?

I could list a million ways being a child of God has changed my life. I was saved when I was 11 years old. My parents did not want me to become a Christian at that age because they knew I would not stick to it. They were right. I was soon back in the world and fully under Satan’s sway. I became a drug addict and was addicted to many things over a 35 year period. I went through a period of being religious and joined a church that I really enjoyed attending. I was the one who would do some light cleaning before services and make sure everything was set up as it needed to be.

One day I got into a terrible argument with the preacher. I was so angry with him I wanted to hit him. I went home and began to think about the argument he and I had. It became clear to me that I was in the wrong and that the argument had been caused by my addiction. I quit using that very day and have not picked up a drug or taken any medication that was not prescribed for me in over eight years. Each day I find that life only gets better. This does not mean to imply that I have no problems. It means to imply that when I have problems I do not over react and blow them all out of proportions. I know that no matter what happens to me today that God has a plan for me. I do not have to worry about the cares of life because God will provide my needs, Jesus said “And why worry about clothes? Look how the wild flowers grow.; they do not work or make clothes for themselves. But I tell you that not even King Solomon with all his wealth did not have clothes as beautiful as one of these flowers,” Matthew 6: 28-29. GNT

Jesus finished this passage of the Sermon on the Mount by saying “So do not start worrying Where will my food come from? Or my drink? Or my clothes? These are things that the pagans are always concerned about. Your Father in Heaven knows you need all these things.” Matthew 6: 31-32. GNT.

Does this mean I can simply lay around and wait for manna to fall from Heaven? No, it does not. God expects me to put legs on my prayers and take action to meet my needs. When I do He prospers my efforts. I want to point out here that the cliche’ “God helps those who help themselves” is not found in the Bible. I do believe the principle of it is in the Bible. God will deposit the money but we have to write the checks.
