The Heart of the Matter

The heart is seen as Man's full core,
it stands for all of him,
To knock to view inside my door,
the chances are quite slim.

They're strewn about on kith and kin,
and o'er the lane they pave,
How can this paper heart yet win
the love of maid I crave?

She will be won by heart inside,
not with the pulp of wood,
The hope of ev'ry tear she's cried
is for a man who's good.

The man for whom we call the day
was killed defending love,
He married those to love display
and fell to live Above.

Do all who lift Saint Valentine
know why he stands for love?
His sacrifice and cause Divine
fit snugly like a glove.

He gave his life for all that's good!
Can live we yet for less?
The One, Who spread His arms on wood,
once bowed to ever Bless!

We marry now to give our all,
another soul we love,
In daily lives Persistence's call
conforms to love above.
