If I had too give my school system a grade I'd fail them because they failed me. I lived in the head of a hollow in the Appalachian Foothills. A creek went past my house and another intersected it with it at the end of our road. We were the last house on a dead end road. So it was mandatory to cross the creek at the end of the road to get out. One year the creek was up so many times it made passage impossible. The school truancy officer confirmed this but the school counted my absences as unexcused. It ultimately cost me my diploma. I ended up getting a GED instead. Some years later a different superintendent called me. He apologized for what the school system had done and asked what they could do to correct it? I told him they could give me my diploma. He refused so I hung up.
