"Why Do I Write?" I would guess that some wonder what my motivation for writing is. I thought I'd try to answer that. Writing to me is an outlet for the many thoughts that keep spinning around in my head. It comes as naturally to me as breathing. I can't imagine what my life would be like if i couldn't write. Like I suspect any write does, I go through dry spells where the muse is basically quiet. However i don't recall a single time I've ever drawn a blank when I chose to write something. I read stories about writer's block and I simply can't relate. Writer's block to me isn't an inability to write. It's those dry spells when I simply lack the urge to want to write. Even during those periods however I find that I can be very creative. My favorite genre of writing of course is poetry. However I try to be very eclectic in my writing. I believe my portfolio will support that. Another favorite for me is reviews. I feel compelled to do as many reviews as I possibly can. In my opinion reviews are motivational as well as educational. Doing a review for a writer is like shouting "amen" during a preacher's sermon. It compels the writer to keep on going. Again my record supports me in making this claim. I am almost always in the top ten most credited reviewers of WdC and to date have over 2,100 reviews to my credit. Reviews in themselves can be very creative. The words for a review don't just appear. We have to write them. In doing so we are using our talent and our skill. The prophet Jeremiah once said that there was no way he could do anything but preach because the words "burned like a fire in his bones." I feel the same way about writing. The words burn like fire and I have to express them. |
