Is there a difference between history and fiction? |
"And the Isrealites went into Canaan and slaughtered the Canaanites for God, who had promised them this land..." Vertago pauses for a sip of water. "How do you know that?" Muzzy interjects. "Know what?" Vertago looks down on Muzzy from his podium. "How do you know the land was promised to the Isrealites? For that matter, how do you know that the Bible is an accurate account of historical events?" Muzzy sips his ice tea, "The Bible was written with a bias for Jews and Christians." Vertago adjust his professor's cap, "Well, how do we know any of ancient history is accurate? Maybe, the Greeks and Romans were full of grapes!" "Exactly! It is all subjective. People are bias by nature and they want to win ... History is propaganda." Muzzy slurps the last of his ice tea. "Do really think it is okay to slaughter Canaanite children? That's what God said in the Bible, 'Dash their children against the rocks.'(Psalm 136:9)." "No-no! That was David singing about the Babylonians! If we don't have faith, then we will be like wild animals!" Vertago takes a quick chug of his bottled water. "Reason based on empirical evidence is the basis of civilization." Muzzy has a jelly doughnut. Vertago slams his Bible shut, "That's communist secular humanist propaganda! You want to make the government God! But, where does the government derive its power? For that matter, where did the universe come from?" "Government drives its power from the people.... The universe operates on the laws of physics." Muzzy pours some more ice tea with a lemon .. Veratgo opens his mouth wide and expands his chest to sound like Charlton Heston in Moses, and points at muzzy, "Without God life is meaningless!" Muzzy burps. Reflections~What is dark matter? Can something come from nothing? <^> |
