Stubborn Dreams
"Don't complain, darling. Your art.... it’s a diamond in the rough. Just takes folks.... awhile to see it, that's all."
"You're just trying to make me feel better, Damon."
"No.... I speak the truth."
"I think you speak crazy." Daisy gave him a playful shove, but he barely shifted. After a beat he moved closer and stole a kiss from her upturned lips.
He moved back and smiled down at her. "If you came to the big city with me... real artsy, folks would appreciate your talent. These locals... they don't know what real art is...."
"These are my people Damon." she scolded him lightly.
"Yes, well... these people... they hold you back."
"Damon."
"You're an artist, but you keep working at the hardware store...."
"Daddy's store...."
"He’s gone. You don't have to stay."
"I do. Momma needs me... and Lainy...."
"Do they?"
"They do." she said with an adamant stamp of her foot.
"Well, if you ask me.... I think they would love you just as much if you followed your dreams instead of holding onto dreams of others."
"You don't know what you’re talking about." she said glaring up at him.
Damon held his ground.
"Momma can't run this shop on her own... and Lainy...."
"Lainy's all grown, Daisy... and she isn't interested in the shop."
"That's right. That's why I have to stay."
"So you're going to give up your dreams to keep your momma happy?"
"Yes, no... oh, stop it."
"Face it Daisy. You need this... come away with me."
"No." she said stubbornly. "I will make it. It may just take me a little longer...." She turned on her heel and stomped off.
Damon shook his head sadly. He couldn’t let her do this, but he wouldn’t force her either. What more could he do?
