No Bull
Prompt : Wildcard Thursday! Bullying , is there a place for it, and if so, why? Bullying is usually carried out and enforced by intimidation , violence, and fear. Threats can be physical or implied. The victim/prey feels powerless. It is not always about size and strength. Both bullies and the bullied come in varying heights and weights. The bully is not necessarily the biggest person in a conflict. Bullies take on the form of males or females, children or adults. It 's not just a playground or school room dilemma. Many work places have their bullies, too. I cannot comprehend what it must feel like to be on the receiving end of a bully. I imagine it is frightening and stressful. What a burden/shadow it must be. There must be the need to know why. What triggers the bullying? Why am I a target? Why is the bully a bully? What can I do, or not do? Ibelieve some bullies have low self-esteem, and poor coping/ socialization skills. Not all of them are intentionally mean. Some may be awkward social misfits seeking friends the only way they know how. Some may be mistreated themselves, and so continue what they've been taught. Is there a place for bullying? I'd like to say no. It is cruel and demeaning, but it does exist. It is nothing new. It may well be a rite of passage, a necessary learning experience. Not everyone we meet is destined to be a friend, but we don't want enemies either. We each possess a unique personality, and we all deserve respect. I do think that bullying shouldn't be dismissed. Education and intervention are key. From a young age, children should be taught acceptance and tolerance. No one is superior.
