Captivated Canine

The bars around me
squeezing closer
As I await her arrival
Instinctively I know
Today, my special day!
Hearing the plop of soft footfalls
crossing cold concrete floor
Compelled, I look up
Against the chain link
tail wagging with pleasure
Our eyes connect
We both know, feel it
She sits on floor
Crawl into her lap
permission not needed
look up at her
and know, she is mine
Previous life
forgotten....gone
only thing that matters
new love, true happiness
Home, a true one
perimeter I keep safe
Family, pure kindness
this feels unreal, foreign
love them each and all
Her and I, something more
we need each other
didn't realize how bad
till the moment our eyes met
we know forever now we are one
