A collection of thirty poems written during the month of April 2016 |
Poetry Prompt for April 3 From NaPoWriMo.net - Yesterday, we wrote portraits of families. Today, let’s turn our vision outward, and write fan letters. I challenge you to write a poem in the form of a fan letter to a celebrity. Now, this could be a celebrity from long ago, and needn’t be an actor or singer (though it could be). You could write to George Washington or Dorothy Dandridge, Marie Curie or The Weeknd. To the women who stood up Raised their voices And claimed We are entitled to equality To fair treatment And acceptance into Areas so frequently seen As only a man's domain, Woman, like Gloria Steinem Who fought for woman's rights So that today we can Step up for ourselves And make our way Without having to be dependent On any man. There is more work to do But we are so much farther ahead Than a lifetime ago Thank you to their bravery and spunk. Thank you for their courage and preservation I raise my glass And wish you well As you continue to Pave the way For future freedoms. http://www.gloriasteinem.com/ ** Image ID #1855238 Unavailable ** |
