I'll Be Waiting
Julie's exasperation with Alison was quite evident in her tone and demeanor, "If you don't understand it, why did you set the test for Sunday?"

"We were busy Saturday.  And it is the last day of the month."
"Are you for real?"

"Why?  It says quite clearly that the test has to be at the end of the month."
"It says 'before' the end of the month."

"Ohhhhh, should we wait until next month then?"

Alison's simpleton utterances were her charm.  And also the most irritating part of her. 
"No, just stop talking for a minute; I need to think about this anyway."

"Figure out what?"

"Never mind.  You wouldn't understand."

Every once in a while, Alison had a clarity of thought delivered with succinct precision, "Tell you what, when you figure it out, don't look for me, I won't be waiting anymore."

Allison caught her by surprise.  Julie grasped at the first thought that came into her brain, "Geez, give me some time!"

More times than not, when Alison made a declaration, there was more truth and honesty than Julie could stand.  Alison's features hardened and her usually angelic voice was now quite harsh, "You knew this time would come sooner or later when you would have to jump in the deep end. You either sink or swim.  I'm cancelling the blood tests. With time and distance, you will be better without me."

"Alison?  Don't be angry."

Alison's features shifted ever so slight to pity, "You had your second chance, sweetie.  You said you were ready to love me again.  You said you would be better this time.  Stick a fork in me, I am done.  Take your time to figure it out.  Just pick somebody else to practice on."
