Mother Moon

Mother Moon


The mountainside is frozen
in a moment of time.
It is lonely,
and mourns the loss
of the verdant green of summer.

Small animals have left
their once beautiful world
to retreat underground.
And sleep the frigid night away.

And Mother Moon embraces
the earth with her wisdom.
It is she that keeps the time.

The tides bow to her whims,
the animals sing her praises,
and the cycle of life
is in her command.

As the storm clouds
rumble her power,
frozen tears float to earth,
and coat the land
in an icy embrace.

In the frigid midnight air,
there is a calming luster
of moonlight on the snow.

Awash in white,
a crisp silence
pervades the air.
And Mother Moon smiles.
